Havanese Puppy Care
Your primary responsibility as the owner of a new purebred Havanese puppy will be to make sure that he is properly taken care of. To do this, you will need many things. It will require money, patience, kindness and time. While the task can seem overwhelming at first, it will not always be so. As your dog and your relationship with him mature, the daily activities of taking care of him will become routine and fly by.
While your dog is a puppy, he will be especially reliant on you to take care of him. You must stop and consider everything that a dog will need. Make sure that you are able to provide these things. He will require food, water, bedding, recreation, grooming, medical care and a way to relieve himself.
Feeding your dog can take some work to properly schedule. You never want him to go without food, but you also want to avoid overfeeding, which can be just as dangerous. It is recommended to feed him in the morning, and then again in the evening. Oftentimes you will not be available to provide a meal in the middle of the day. The dog can likely do without this. He may learn to slowly eat his morning food throughout the day, until you return home to feed him in the evening. Each dog will be different, and you will have to watch your dog and learn his habits so you can respond accordingly.
Water is just as important to a dog as food. Keep in mind that dogs may need to drink up to a quart of water per day. Your dog will need this water throughout his day to aid in the digestion of his food and to regulate his body temperature. Going thirsty can also result in serious health problems.
Unfortunately, the issue of going to the bathroom can be a difficult one for small Havanese puppies. The Havanese can be a particularly difficult breed to housebreak or potty-train. It will take time, but you will be able to teach your new Havanese puppy what you want him to do. A dog will also require a special area to call his own. This is where all of his other needs should be met. By following the tips provided here, you can create a happy home for your new pet.
You will find that grooming is very important to a Havanese, even to a small Havanese puppy. From a young age, his long silky coat will need your special care. It will be a daily task to keep your Havanese dog looking – and feeling – his best. Along with grooming comes recreation. As long as there is adequate space available, your Havanese puppy will play and run around all day. But it’s also very important to play with your puppy. Just like with grooming, getting some quality time with his master will keep your puppy very happy.
By now you are beginning to see that owning a Havanese puppy will not always be easy. You will have to work at it, especially at first. It will get easier over time as your new Havanese puppy becomes a big part of your life. And there are things you can do to make it easier on yourself. You can make the transition period go very smoothly by preparing for your Havanese puppy before he even arrives. With a little planning and care, you can make all the work seem like play, and you and your dog can enjoy each other all the time.
