Proper Havanese Care Means Proper Diet And Nutrition

What happens when you treat yourself right by maintaining a healthy diet? You feel better, you look better and you’re better able to maintain good health and a healthy weight.  It’s no different for your Havanese. Caring for your Havanese’s dietary intake is a job of every responsible owner. Here’s some information about what a proper dog diet should include and the part that nutrition plays in choosing the right diet.

A Dog And A Tyrannosaurus Are Not The Same Thing

In other words, dogs are not true carnivores (and obviously they’re not terrifying prehistoric reptiles either). They don’t eat just meat. Meat or meat products are an important part of any Havanese’s diet, but so are grains, vegetables and dairy (unless your dog is lactose intolerant). Commercial dog foods provide these ingredients in their chow in the right proportions, but if you decide to make your dog’s food yourself you can include these ingredients as well. Dog food has come a long way over the years when dogs were fed almost exclusively table scraps. You can choose a commercial dog food from three basic categories: dry, premoistened or canned. They vary mainly in their water content (dry has the least amount of water, canned the most).

Sure, It Looks Good, But Is It Good For You?

Admittedly, most dog foods don’t look—or smell—that appealing, at least to discerning humans. But any food you offer your Havanese should include the right balance of protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. Havanese care involves choosing a food with the proper nutrients while making sure that plenty of clean drinking water is always available to your pet. Your Havanese needs both to survive and thrive. And you may take a multivitamin daily to supplement your intake, but there’s no proof that a dog on a balanced diet needs one. It may seem like you’re providing extra care for Havanese by giving him an dietary supplement but it’s not a nutritional necessity for a well-fed animal.

Treats!

All dogs love treats and your Havanese is no exception; just make sure that you provide your pet with nutritious snacks. The market is flooded with choices of dog food and dog treats, so you may have to read some labels to determine which treats are best. This shows that you care for your Havanese’s health and longevity. And one last reminder: try to avoid feeding your animal from your plate. They will eat just about anything offered but excessive amounts of table scraps can be unhealthy for your pet and lead to excessive weight gain.
