An Electronic Dog Training Collar Can Help Teach The Dog To Behave Appropriately |
Breeding Your Havanese
If you choose to breed your Havanese you need to think about what your motivation is for doing so. If you want to breed your dog in order to make a quick buck, this is the wrong motivation, and because of the many health problems that are possible with this breed, it could result in inferior or sickly puppies if the Havanese breeding is not done correctly. In other words, if you care for your Havanese—and the breed in general—do not make breeding attempts for monetary reasons. However, if you truly care about the betterment of the breed and want to share your love of the Havanese with others, then proceed—but with care.
When In Doubt…
If you have a serious health concern, you consult with an expert: your doctor. So, if you’re considering a serious undertaking like Havanese breeding you likewise need to talk to an expert: an experienced and reputable breeder. It’s hard to find specific information about Havanese breeding from any other source. An experienced breeder can introduce you to the important factors to consider when breeding your animal. In addition, a breeder may have an available dam or sire in case you only have one dog or lack the proper facilities for breeding. To consider breeding his own animal with yours, a reputable Havanese breeder should want to see the health testing information you received from the original breeder of your Havanese, and should ask questions about your dog’s health history. Has your dog developed any of the health problems sometimes seen in the Havanese breed? This question must be answered to the breeder’s satisfaction. He may also question you about your motives for Havanese breeding.
Pros And Cons
If you have a healthy dog and breed him or her, then you need to remember that a female may need additional veterinary care if complications arise during pregnancy, labor or delivery. And while giving birth to puppies is the desired result, the entire process involves some level of risk to your female animal. The worst case scenario would be that your dog could die. If you have children in the home, you need to at least think about this possibility and how you would respond. So it's quite important to know how to care for your Havanese at home.
Another con to the process is that you may end up having to keep more of the puppies than you planned on (you may have planned on not having to keep any of them). But, this is a possibility, particularly if some of the puppies develop health problems. You may also have to provide a refund or make reparations to puppy buyers who want to return the animal because of health problems.
The biggest plus to Havanese breeding is the knowledge that you have bettered the breed with your match and are able to share your love of the breed with others. Plus, Havanese puppies are so cute!
