What You Need To Groom Your Havanese

Don’t feel so confident about the talent? Well, at least you’ll have the tools after you read this article on Havanese care. With practice, your grooming talent will grow and you will have one happy and good-looking Havanese.

    Brushing Tools And Supplies

For brushing your Havanese, you’ll need a slicker brush or pin brush and a comb. Brush the body first, saving the face for last. You might want to pretreat the hair around the face with tangle remover so that it is easier to brush when you get to it. We’re assuming that you’re not grooming your pet in order to show him. If you are, the process is more complicated and should be done daily in order to keep the dog’s coat in top condition. The hair around your Havanese’s paws need regular trimming as well. Havanese care is never done; well, that’s an exaggeration, but the care has to be regular.

    Bathing Supplies

As mentioned earlier, you’ll need some pet shampoo with proper pH balance for Havanese care. You’ll also need to treat the coat with conditioner to keep the hair from drying out and becoming rough or brittle. You may want to invest in a non-slip bath mat for your dog to prevent possible injuries from slips or falls in the tub. After a dunk in the tub, towel him semi-dry then blow dry to finish your Havanese bath care.

    Eyes, Ears And Nails

For eye cleaning you’ll need a soft cloth or some cotton balls and warm water. For ear cleaning you’ll need a soft cloth and warm water. To pluck hair from your dog’s ears you’ll need some tweezers or a hemostat. The nails require pet nail clippers and a regular nail file for smoothing rough edges.

    Various And Sundry Issues

To keep your pet’s teeth clean and to protect them from decay, you can brush them every 2 weeks or so with a properly sized pet tooth brush (ask your vet if in doubt) and pet toothpaste. Do not use human toothpaste. You don’t swallow the stuff and your dog doesn’t need to either. Havanese care means using products meant for dogs, not humans. In a pinch you can cleanse your dog’s teeth by dipping your finger in garlic water and rubbing it across his teeth.

As stated, your groomer can cut your pet’s hair shorter so it is easier to maintain. Don’t have your Havanese cut too short or it could irritate his skin; plus, he won’t really look like a Havanese anymore. Check out: Expert grooming tips for your Havanese.
