Pet owners do many things to keep their pets safe. When it comes to dogs, it
can involve a series of duties, such as walking them, giving them their shots,
taking them regularly to the veterinarian, and even getting a dog fence
installed in order to keep them from wandering off or running after something or
someone.
However, some dog owners aren't sure if they should get an electric dog fence
for their pets.. They often wonder if they're painful to their pets. To really
decide if an electronic dog fence is right for your pet, you have to look at the
pros and cons.
Before anything, this is how electric dog fences work: there is a wire buried
along the desired perimeter of the electric dog fence. Then, a receiver is
placed in the dog's collar, which gives the dog a small static charge whenever
it tries to cross the cable.
The pros of an electronic dog fence include things like aesthetics: there’s no
ugly fences blocking the view from you yard. In addition, you don't have to get
building permits or deal with zoning laws, since you're not building anything
and the view stays the same. So, you can keep your pet safe and inside your
property without building or constructing an actual fence.
You should also take the disadvantages in consideration. Fences don’t just serve
to keep dogs in – they keep other things out as well. Regular fences also add a
bit of security to a house, since they represent an obstacle for would be thiefs.
Depending on their type, some fences can actually make houses look better.
Electric dog fences can be overcome if you set them so mild that your dog can
barely feel the shock, specially if your dog gets too excited. Moveover, your
dog might not want or be able to come back, because doing so would activate the
shock too.
An electric dog fence is a good idea for keeping your dog inside. Unlike other fences, it doesn't block the way or view of your yard. However, if your dog manages to get to the other side of the electronic dog fence, it'll have problems coming back.
